SEEING JESUS IN THE OLD TESTAMENT – FROM JOSEPH TO JESUS

Remember Joseph and the technicolor dream coat? Joseph was betrayed by his own brothers and sold as a slave in a foreign land. Years later Joseph finds himself sitting at the King of Egypt’s right hand; second in command of that great nation with incredible power to wield as he sees fit. On a seemingly regular day, who comes walking through the palace doors? His brothers begging him to save them from a life-threatening famine. Even though Joseph had every right to exercise justice for the crime they committed, he gives them mercy and grace and preserves their lives.

Jesus is the true and better Joseph who sits at the right hand of the Almighty King. We are his betrayers who beg for his mercy to preserve our lives. Even though he has every right to exercise justice against us for running him out of our lives because of our preference for other things, Jesus gives us grace and uses his power to save us rather than destroy us.

The Bible is not a collection of isolated stories, but a single, unified story ultimately about Jesus Christ.
